The European Union and Mongolia Joint Committee 18th Meeting was held in Brussels on 23 April 2018. The Meeting was chaired by Mr TSOGTBAATAR Damdin, Minister of Foreign Affairs and by Mr Gunnar WIEGAND, Managing Director for Asia and the Pacific at the European External Action Service. Both parties exchanged views on regional and global issues and discussed the opportunities for strengthening cooperation on connectivity issues.
In the meeting, both the EU and Mongolia remarked that entry into force of the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement created a legal basis for enlargement of the scope of Mongolian cooperation with the EU notably with all EU Member Countries and the Parties re-affirmed the importance of further enhancing their relations by working on and approving an action plan to implement the PCA in the near future. The Parties agreed to further cooperate on the involvement of Mongolian students and scientific institutions in EU educational programs, to provide capacity building to the Mongolian Government for enhancing their skills to make effective international trade and investment agreements and to protect children’s rights and on environmental protection issues.
Within the framework of the Joint Committee Meeting, the EU-Mongolia Human Rights Dialogue was held on 20 April. The Subcommittee on Trade and Investment was previously held ahead of the Joint Committee on 10 April and the minutes of that meeting attached in the Joint Committee protocol.
